Association Activities

Student chaired association is actively organising programmes under the guidance of the staff. The students are divided into groups and each group is supposed to organize two programmes in each semester. Apart from this, the Association also organizes various seminars, guest lectures, awareness programmes, rallies on matter of importance, observing important days and inter-collegiate competitions.

2010-2011

The Association was officially inaugurated on 02nd August 2010 by Ms. Nirmala, IAS, Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Chennai.

The Association had its “Rural Camp” at Vallipuram and Esoor Village of Chengalpat Taluk from 20.08.2010 to 27.08.2010.

A workshop on “Communication Skills” was organized on September 27th 2010. Mr. Vivek Gandhi, HR trainer was the resource person.

Prof. Akileshwari of Department of Social Work, Loyola College screened a “Documentary film on Child Rights and Empowerment of Women” on September 28th, 2010.

Prof. Simon Joseph of Department of Social Work, Loyola College spoke on “Leadership and Motivation” on 1st October 2010.

On the same day Prof. Belinda, Head, Department of Social Work, Madras Christian College delivered a lecture on “Essential of Self-esteem for a leader”.

Mr. Jayachandran, a HR trainer, influenced the students with his talk combined with games and a film on “Interpersonal relationship and Team building” on 4th October 2010.

On October 5th, Mr. Narayanan, an alumnus of our college and a trainer, trained our students on the topic “Motivation”.

Mr. Jayachandran Naidu, Editor, Journal of School Social Work emphasized the “Importance of Values and Ethics in Social Work” on October 11th, 2010.

Ms. Manmathadevi, Secretary, Professional Social Worker’s Association stressed the “Functioning of Professional Social Worker’s Association” on the same day.

On October 12th, 2010, Mr. Veerasekara Pandian, through his group games, team tasks and in-door play way method trained the students on “Personality Development and Self-Confidence”.

On 14th October 2010, our student met Professional Social Workers working in various NGOs and understood the scope of Social Work Profession in the society.

Mr. C. Chandrasekar, Senior HR, LTE, Coimbatore delivered a guest lecture on “Master of Social Work and its Scope in the Society” on 18th January 2011.

A Parent – Teacher’s Meet was organized on 28th January 2011. The importance of the MSW programme, its uniqueness, field work, camp, tour, attendance and examination pattern were explained to the parents. The staff answered the queries of the parents too.

Dr. K. Mahadevan, Professor, Department of Sexually Transmitted Disease, Government Hospital, Coimbatore delivered a guest lecture on “Current trends and information about People Living with HIV/AIDS” on 19th February 2011.

Mr. Vinoth Selvam, HR Manager, Tata Consultancy Services, Chennai gave an awareness on, “Degree of MSW and its uniqueness”, to all the UG final year students of our college on 23rd March 2011.

Activities at various places

Mr. R. Karthik, Mr. B. Mohan and Mr. J. Thanigaivelan – participated in the workshop on “HR Practices” during 3rd, 7th – 9th and 13th -14th of September 2010 organised by the Department of Accounting & Finance and Bank Management, RKM Vivekananda College (Evening).

The Ist MSW students had participated in a Street Theatre Competition in observance of National Youth Day on 11th January 2011, at Loyola College organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development and Department of Social Work, Loyola College.

The Ist MSW students volunteered the National Youth Day Celebrations on 12th January 2011 at Ramakrishna Mission Boys’ Home, Chennai which was organized by Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.

Five of our Ist MSW students volunteered in the “Prevention of Disability Camp & Economic Rehabilitation Programme” organized by Ramakrishna Math, Chennai on 1st March 2011.

Six of our Ist MSW students participated in the State Level Seminar on “Enrichment of Multi-disciplinary Tasks in the Social Work Profession” organized by the PG Department of Social Work, DRBCCC Hindu College, Chennai on 3rd March 2011.
