Association Activities - Department of Sanskrit (Day College)
Introduction
The Sanskrit Association was functioning from the inception and was inaugurated by Sri C. Rajagopalacharyar on 4th September 1952. Many Professors from India and abroad visited our Department. A few of the important lectures by scholars like Panditaraja D.T.Tatacharya, Agnihotram Ramanuja Tatacharya and Polagam Sri Rama Sastrigal have been published in the College Magazine.
The University of Madras chose our College as the venue for the conduct of Sanskrit oratorical contests conducted by the University till 1985. Recitation and oratorical contests on Swami Vivekananda’s life and thoughts are held in Sanskrit as part of Jayanti Celebrations, every year. Under the auspices of Prof. V.Rajagopalan endowment an oratorical contest in Sanskrit is held every year. There are a few endowments by Amarabharati Samiti, Vasudevasarma commemoration committee and Dr. C.V. Radhakrishnan, D.S. Agarval for recitation competition in Saundaryalahari, Adityahrdayam, Vedic recitation, Gita and Sundarakandam which are held every year. Quiz in Sanskrit is conducted by students as a part of Association activities every year. Our students have presented Madhurima Sanskrit Programme in All India Radio, Chennai a few times.
