Association Activities - Department of Philosophy (Day College)
2008 – 2009
The Philosophy Association was inaugurated by Swami Atmaghanananda, Secretary on 04-08-2008. Prof. G. Srinivasa Prabhu, Principal, presided over the function and Dr R.Raj Singh, Professor of Philosophy, Brock University, Canada, gave a lecture on “ Schopenhauer and Buddhism : Suffering and Asceticism”.
2007-2008
The Philosophy Association was inaugurated on 05-10-2007. Dr.K.L.Madhavan Head, Department of Philosophy, Pachaiyappa’s College spoke on the importance of ‘Soft Skills’ Swami Atmaghanananda, Secretary & Rector inaugurated the Association activities for the year and Professor G.Srinivasa Prabhu, Principal presided over the function.
The Valedictory function of the Philosophy Association was held on 12-03-08. Swami Atmaghanananda, Secretary & Rector, gave the benedictory address and Prof. G. Srinivasa Prabhu, Principal, gave the presidential address. Dr T.C.Gopalakrishnan, Coastal Engineer (Retd.) gave a talk on “Freshness of Life: Is there a way!”
2006-2007
The Philosophy Association was inaugurated on 13-12-2006. Dr.R. Gopalakrishnan, Head, Department of Philosophy, University Of Madras, Chennai, delivered a lecture on “Moral Philosophy of Tirukkural” . Swami Satyapriyananda Maharaj, Secretary & Rector gave his benedictory address and Dr V.V.Subramanian Principal of the college gave his presidential address.
On 03-04-2007, Dr .K.L.Madhavan Head, Department of Philosophy, Pachaiyappa’s College spoke on “ Philosophy of History” .Swami Satyapriyananda Maharaj, Secretary & Rector gave his benedictory address and Dr V.V.Subramanian Principal of the college gave his presidential address.
2005-2006
The Association was inaugurated on 21-06-2005. Dr T.Sathyamoorthy, Chief Superintendent, Archaeological Survey of India delivered a lecture on “Philosophical foundations of Indian Archaeology. Dr N.C.Ramanujachary, President, Theosophical Federation, Adyar delivered a lecture on “Contributions of Theosophy to Modern Science. Swami Satyapriyananda Maharaj, Secretary & Rector of the college gave the benedictory address and released a magazine on “Philosophy of Science”. Dr N.C.Ramanujachary received the first copy and Dr V.V.Subramanian, Principal presided over the function.
Francis X.Clooney, S.J. Professor of Comparative Theology & Divinity, Harvard University, Cambridge, USA gave a talk on “Philosophy of the Srimad Rahasyatrayasaram – in a comparative Perspective” on 27-07-2005. The Principal Dr V.V.Subramanian presided over the function.
Richard Kearney, Boston College, USA, delievered a lecture on “Postmodernism and Imagination” on 10-01-2006. Dr S.Panneerselvam, Professor of Philosophy, University of Madras introduced the chief guest. Swami Satyapriyananda Maharaj, Secretary & Rector gave his benedictory address and Dr V.V.Subramanian Principal of the college gave his presidential address.
Dr K.Rajasekaran, Former Head, Department of Tamil, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College (Autonomous), delivered valedictory address on “Tirukkuralil Araviyal” on 29-03-2006. Swami Satyapriyananda Maharaj, Secretary & Rector gave his benedictory address and distributed the certificates to students who participated in the National Seminar on Indian Philosophical Heritage- A Re-understanding sponsored by ICPR, New Delhi. Dr V.V.Subramanian Principal of the college gave his presidential address.
